Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP)

Secure interconnection between 5G networks

Infradata provides 5G network functions as well as interworking with legacy 3G, 4G, Fixed/Wi-Fi functions. To provide a secure interconnection between 5G networks, Infradata can offer a Security Edge Protection Proxy or SEPP. The SEPP ensures end-to-end confidentiality and integrity between the source and destination network for all 5G interconnect roaming messages.

5G interconnection

The Next Generation Core (NGC) of the 5G Service Based Architecture is build on HTTP/2 signaling. In such a design it is mandatory to offer services, connectivity and security when it is required. One single signaling bus will be used for all signaling services, meaning that message prioritization, throttling, overload protection and routing should be done by one entity.

The Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP) is the network element in the 5G Next Generation Core that will be handling all of those functions. In an ideal world, this entity should be an add-on to the existing DRA and/or STP which runs virtualized in your datacenter.

Preparing for convergence

Convergence requires products that work across different domains, networks, technologies, vendors and services. These products should support interworking and gradual migration/transition to 5G. This applies to investments in new 5G network functions as well as legacy product replacements (e.g. STP, DRA).
